Get ready for this - it’s a coffee machine that Twitters!

I wanted to thank Robin Wauters for posting this blog today to share with the rest of us random-weird-stuff junkies. And I can’t forget to thank the agency Blanko and their intern for this crazy fun invention.

So here’s how it works: “basically, a webcam attached to the coffee machine detects when the text on its display screen changes and sends the image to a computer, where it is matched with images in a database. When a match is found (which succeeds most of the time but not always, depending on how good the light is), a status update is automatically sent to the Blankomat Twitter account. The whole thing was set up by a 16-year old intern of the agency, probably when he had too much coffee.”

I added @blankomat to my twitter followers (it only has about 165 so far) - but unfortunately I can’t read German. You’d think I should, since it’s my heritage and all, but no. I did manage to figure out the most recent update: “1 KAFFEE”

So I ask… what could possibly be next?

Oh, the possibilities. If we can get a coffee machine that Twitters, why not our appliances, or our home? How cool would it be to send us constant updates to let us know what’s happening when we’re not there (@kristenshouse Front Door opened, cat ran out, kids won’t do their homework. about 4 minutes ago)
